4. Succinylcholine is the induction agent of choice in hyperkalemia patients

Succinlycholine is a depolarizing neuromuscular blocking agent that results in an efflux of potassium ions from the muscle cells into the serum. The resultant increase in hyperkalemia can precipitate severe cardiac events, including cardiac arrest. Acidosis can result in an increase in serum potassium, albuterol can acutely reduce serum potassium and intravenous calcium chloride is usually considered the drug of choice for arrthymias secondary to hyperkalemia.
